Yes, You Can Change the Color of Your Littmann Classic III (Without Buying a New One)

If you have searched how to change the color of your Littmann, you have probably been told it cannot really be done: paint it, wrap it, buy a whole new stethoscope, or just live with it. That advice is out of date.

You can change the color of the Littmann Classic III you already own in about a minute, at home, with no tools, and without touching the part that matters most: the chestpiece. The easiest way is to design it in our Stethoscope Lab and see every color on your exact model before you buy.

How it actually works

Your stethoscope's sound comes from the chestpiece and its diaphragm. Those never come off. Everything you see and touch (the tubing, the diaphragm and bell rings, and the ear tips) snaps off and snaps back on. A MotivatEM color kit replaces those visible parts in the color you choose, so you keep your genuine Littmann acoustics and finally get a stethoscope that looks like yours.

Same Littmann trust. Your colors.

What you can change

  • Tubing in colors like Raspberry (pink), Plum (purple), Chocolate (brown), Caribbean Blue, and All-Black.
  • Diaphragm and bell rings to match or contrast.
  • Ear tips in the same color family.

Mix and match, or recolor the whole scope. You can build the full kit or grab a single part.

How to change your Littmann Classic III color in under a minute

  1. Remove the old tubing. Grip the tubing where it meets the chestpiece and pull firmly. It releases from the chestpiece.
  2. Add your new tubing. Push the new color tubing onto the chestpiece until snug.
  3. Swap the rings. Replace the diaphragm and bell rings with your color set.
  4. Swap the ear tips. Pull off the old ear tips and push on your new ones until they click.
  5. Done. Your Littmann now wears your color, with the same head and the same sound.

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace the tubing on a Littmann Classic III yourself?

Yes. The tubing is a replaceable part. It pulls off the chestpiece and a new one pushes on in seconds, no tools required. You are not modifying the acoustic head at all, so you keep the Littmann you trust and simply give it a new look.

Will changing the tubing affect the acoustics or sound quality?

No. The chestpiece and diaphragm do all the listening, and they never come off. You are only swapping the visible tubing, rings, and ear tips. Your Littmann sounds exactly the same after.

How long does it take, and do I need any tools?

About a minute, and no tools. If you can put ear tips on, you can do this.

Can I just paint or dye my stethoscope tubing instead?

We do not recommend it. Spray paint and acrylics crack and peel and can damage the tubing, and dyes and solvents can weaken it. A snap-on color kit gives you a clean, even, durable color without the risk.

Why is my tubing hard, stiff, or sticky, and can I fix it?

Over time the oils from your skin harden the PVC in stethoscope tubing, and there is no way to reverse it. The good news is you do not need a new stethoscope. Replace just the tubing, and pick a new color while you are at it, and your Classic III feels new again.

What colors can I get, and how much does it cost?

A full color kit is $49 and includes matching tubing, rings, and ear tips, plus a free White Stethoscope AirTag Holder, a $14 value. Individual parts start at $29. You keep your own chestpiece, so there is no need to buy a whole new stethoscope.

Which stethoscopes does this work with?

The Littmann Classic III. Not sure which Littmann you have? Rotate the chestpiece and read the small etched model name. If it says Classic III, you are set.
