Rainbow Stethoscope: The Two Ways to Get One (Finish vs Full Color Build)
Share
The short answer
"Rainbow stethoscope" means two different things, and knowing which one you want saves you money. If you mean the iridescent rainbow-finish chestpiece, that is a factory Littmann feature: you buy it on a new stethoscope, at new-stethoscope pricing. If you mean a stethoscope in your own mix of colors, that is a parts game, and it is exactly what the Stethoscope Lab does: pick your tubing, ring, and ear tip colors independently and build the combination on the Classic III you already own for $49.
Meaning one: the rainbow-finish chestpiece
Littmann sells rainbow-finish editions across several models: the metal chestpiece carries an iridescent, oil-slick finish that shifts color in the light, usually paired with black or dark tubing. It is a genuinely striking factory option with one honest caveat: the finish lives on the chestpiece, so it comes only with a new stethoscope, at roughly $120 to $250 depending on the model, and the popular pairings drift in and out of stock like every Littmann edition. There is no aftermarket way to add a rainbow finish to the chestpiece you already own, from us or anyone.
Meaning two: your own color build
The other rainbow is the one you design. Because the tubing, diaphragm and bell rings, and ear tips are all separately swappable on the Classic III, you can mix colors instead of matching them: Caribbean Blue tubing with raspberry rings, chocolate tubing with white trim, black tubing with a color pop at the ears. The Stethoscope Lab lets you build the combination piece by piece for $49, and every part installs tool-free in seconds while the chestpiece and its acoustics stay untouched.
Worth knowing
Current mixable colors: tubing in Black, Raspberry, Caribbean Blue, Chocolate, and Plum, with rings and ear tips in 7 colors each, and new Core Collection colors are in development now (waitlist gets them first). One combination per build: this is a custom two-tone or three-tone stethoscope, not tie-dye tubing, which nobody makes.
Which rainbow is right for you
- Rainbow-finish chestpiece: you are buying a new Littmann anyway and want the iridescent hardware.
- Custom color build ($49): you own a Classic III and want a combination nobody else on the unit has.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Littmann make a rainbow stethoscope?
Yes, as a chestpiece finish: rainbow-finish editions carry an iridescent metal chestpiece, usually with dark tubing, on a new stethoscope at roughly $120 to $250. Littmann does not make multicolor tubing.
Can I add a rainbow finish to the chestpiece I already own?
No. The iridescent finish is factory-applied to the metal and cannot be added aftermarket. What you can change on your current Classic III is everything around the chestpiece: tubing, rings, and ear tips, each in its own color.
How do I make a multicolor stethoscope?
Mix the parts. On a Classic III the tubing, diaphragm and bell rings, and ear tips are all separately swappable, so you can combine colors freely. The Stethoscope Lab builds the combination for $49, and everything installs tool-free.
Is there tie-dye or multicolor tubing?
No, nobody makes it, including us. A multicolor stethoscope is built by combining solid-color parts. Printed-pattern tubing is something we are exploring, but nothing is buyable today, and we would rather say that plainly.
Will mixing colors change how my Littmann sounds?
No. The chestpiece and diaphragm do all the listening and never come off during a swap. Color is cosmetic; the acoustics are untouched.
Are these genuine Littmann parts?
No. Our parts are independent aftermarket accessories made to fit the Littmann Classic III, and we are not affiliated with 3M or Littmann.
Can I get what I paid back for a stethoscope color kit or replacement tubing?
Yes. If you buy an eligible stethoscope color kit or replacement tubing from medmotivate.com, post a genuine before-and-after within 30 days after delivery, tag @MotivatEM with the required disclosure, and submit the post through the offer page, you can get what you paid for that item back as store credit toward a future order. This is store credit, not cash, and the offer applies only to eligible color kits and replacement tubing, not standalone ear tips, rings, holders, or other products.
